“What distinguishes the 404 is that everything is curved in
one dimension but all elements come together in this sort
of node, which is formed three dimensionally.
It is not technology, e.g. that of bentwood, that makes the
chair special but the way the parts come together”

Developed as part of Japan Creative’s initiative to revive traditional
Japanese craft and fabrication methods within a contemporary context,
Soba explores and experiments with bamboo in its natural state. Created
incollaboration with a bamboo fabricator on Kochi island, the pieces are
made from raw bamboo canes, using thin cords to brace the individual
parts and hold them together. This allows for a quick and easy assembly
(and disassembly) of the individual pieces.
